The term ‘uncanny valley’ never fit so perfectly to describe an environment. On the surface, Los Angeles has been transformed from a large metropolis into a sprawling patchwork of different times and places from Earth’s History. City Blocks from the 24th century set right next to the Roman Colosseum, or an entire neighborhood converted into sprawling amazonian jungle, hiding an Aztec city. It’s strange, yet oddly none of the people living here seem to have a problem with the difference. They go to work, live and play and interact as if everything is completely normal. They even spend their currency in other time zones with a 1:1 conversion. But anyone coming in blind would recognize that this Los Angeles is not what it is supposed to be.
The main layout of the city is basically exactly the same. Same streets, same neighborhoods, but one may walk down a street in contemporary 2017 Los Angeles and find themselves walking on cobblestone with a horse and buggy offering them a ride like a regular taxi by the cockney speaking Englishman from 1894.
Time is broken, space has folded in on itself on a single point, and the time storm rages on in the fourth dimension. They can’t see any visual signs of the storm raging, but it manifests itself in the things that appear at random intervals, or the things that happen. One morning a block may be 1990s Beverly hills, the next it’s a section of Kyoto Japan in the feudal era. There’s no real pattern or logic behind which times are where, but there is just as much of the original Los Angeles preserved as there are radical changes. Even then the city itself is subject to different times being represented.
One bus could have an advertisement for a Frank Sinatra show whereas another, the new Iphone, or even the Backstreet Boys. Nobody living here bats an eye at it all, but that just indicates a deeply rooted problem with the city. Everyone has gone native. This is their new normal.
Currently, it seems as though the characters are confined to the downtown area. As if there’s a strange invisible bubble around it. If you try to step beyond the barrier it will just rubber band you back after a few seconds.
Notable Historical landmarks
Big Ben 1875 CE. Along with Big Ben, there are many other British Parliament buildings as well as houses and shops all from the Victorian Era.
Catacombs of Paris 1812 CE. Sprawling beneath the streets of LA are the bodies of millions of French men. Magic is strong here.
A Nickelodeon Studio lot: 1993 CE. Half a dozen sound stages for Legends of the Hidden Temple, Clarissa Explains it all, and Double Dare 2000, among other things.
The Mall of America 1997 CE. Hanson, Jurassic Park 2 playing in the movie theater, Cap Snoopy, Lego land, fun for all ages. Too bad they don’t have the aquarium yet.
Colosseum of Rome: 90 CE. Careful not to become the main event. When the Roman’s aren’t trying to sedate the masses through violence they’re throwing Madonna concerts.
Red Ivy Speakeasy 1920s Chicago: 1924 CE. Step into prohibition era Chicago and see if you can’t get a little bit of illegal whiskey. Illegal booze always tastes better. Just don’t cross hairs with Capone’s goons.
Greenwich Village: 1968 CE. Art and Hippies, everywhere. You can’t get more bohemian atmosphere if you tried
DC Specific landmarks.
New Central city of the 31st century. 31st Century. Technology that seems like magic even to the Waverider, Star Labs remains as a strong presence. There’s also a Flash Museum. Oddly enough this area is extremely difficult to get into due to the law enforcement of the Science Police who are a bit more self-aware than the other locals. They openly discriminate against the time refugees, and that means you. If you get caught in the city you’re probably going to get put in a cell for a few days.
Hall of Justice: 2097 CE. In incredible disrepair, this former home of the justice league harbors some tales of heroes yet to be.
Coast City: 24th century CE. A futuristic residential area with a few museums regarding technology and a mechanical engineering college. There’s also a statue of a lantern in the town square.
Titans Tower: 2025 CE. A brand new building and nobody is home. It seems built for the superhero in mind with training facilities and living space as well as a computer command room.
Verdant: 2013 CE. A nightclub from a bad neighborhood. This place has a rough crowd living around it. Try not to get mugged wandering the nearby earthquake stricken neighborhood known as The “Glades.”.
Smoak Technologies:2020 CE. A brand new building with corporate floors but much of the building space is dedicated to technological engineering.
Palmer Tech: 2014 CE. Palmer technologies as it was in 2014. A company dedicated to pushing technology forward and improving living conditions in Star City.
